With such awesome tattoo designs around for women, no wonder just about every celebrity has one somewhere on their body! 

It's almost not a question of whether, but where, famous women from movies, tv and the media have their tattoos!

Famous Royals with Tattoos

Surprisingly, one of the earliest royals known to have a tattoo, was Richard the Lionheart, King of England, who reputedly had a Jerusalem cross.

Another royal, King Edward VII, had a cross tattoo on his arm and his son, King George V, was tattooed with a Japanese dragon design. However, there is no historical record of any female member of royalty getting tattooed - do let us know if you have heard otherwise!

Cool Celeb Body Art

A number of the most well known female celebrities sport at least one piece of body art.

Female celebs with tats, include Amy Winehouse, Cher, Britney Spears, Avril Lavigne, Jessica Alba, Angelina Jolie, Megan Fox, Anna Kournikova, Pamela Anderson, Christina Ricci, Alyssa Milano, Julia Roberts, Sandra Bullock, Sarah Michelle Gellar, Drew Barrymore & Lindsay Lohan.

These lovely ladies have shown that girls are just as committed to their ink as men.

If you want to see how good tattoos can look on guys, David Beckham has a chinese tattoo running down the left side of his body, which is supposed to mean "'Death and life have determined appointments. Riches and honour depend upon heaven".  He also has other designs in Hebrew, Hindi & Latin - many expressing love for his wife, Victoria, and all with deep significance and meaning.

So, just what designs are the rich and famous making popular?

Angelina Jolie has over a dozen tattoos - she started getting them as a teenager, and has been adding to them ever since.

The tattoo design on her left upper arm is supposed to be the co-ordinates of the birth place for each of her children.

Even Angelina has seen her share of tattoo mistakes, apparently having to cover up a dragon tattoo on her hip with a large cross design.

Alyssa Milano is another star who got tattooed in her youth.

She apparently started with a simple fairy on her hip.   She is famous for starring in the TV show, Charmed, amongst other TV appearances.

She also has tattoos of an angel, a vine covered in flowers, a heart, a sanskrit symbol, and a recent addition, a snake tattoo design on her wrist.

Drew Barrymore seems an unlikely candidate for tattoos, starting out with relatively conservative movie roles in The Wedding Singer and Never Been Kissed.

With new roles in Riding In Cars with Boys and Charlies Angels, Drew shook off that "good girl" image and is now acknowledged as an accomplished movie star.

Drew's cross tattoo is most unusual, being surrounded by vines.  She has a small tattoo of a moon on one of her toes.

Drew also has flower and butterfly tattoo designs on her hip and stomach.  She also is supposed to have tattoos of angels on her lower back - but who's telling?
